Tyrannosaurus rex was a large theropod dinosaur from the late Cretaceous of North America.
It is the most famous dinosaur in the world, appearing in a lot of popular culture. It was a very large theropod, once hailed as the "King of Dinosaurs", although its once unbeaten size has been surpassed by a number of other large theropods, including Giganotosaurus, Oxalaia, Saurophaganax, Carcharodontosaurus, Spinosaurus, and possibly Tyrannotitan and Chilantaisaurus. However, in terms of mass, more recent estimates show that it surpasses most, if not all, of the aforementioned creatures. A related, also very large tyrannosaur from about the same time in Asia, Tarbosaurus bataar, may belong to this genus.
Tyrannosaurus was compared to some of its relatives multiple times, including Daspletosaurus in a database scene. In a another database scene, it was used as evidence for the ceratopsian-tyannosaur arms race, with its ceratopsian being Triceratops.
